A Shocking Discovery
"What girl?" This question kept going round and round in Molly's mind and she could not quite concentrate on the patients she was visiting in the children's cancer ward. Finally she had to tell herself to just pray and leave it to God, just as she had so often heard her pastor say.
"After all, I can't control Sean or what he thinks about me. Sometimes I can't even control myself," Molly thought to herself. After praying silently, she was able to focus on the children she was there to cheer up.
Two hours were soon over. After hugging the children, Molly left the room together with Sara and went to return their white gowns. On their way, Molly told Sara about her encounter with Sean.
"Should I go see him? I really don't feel like it," Molly asked Sara.
"I know it's hard," looking at Molly understandingly, Sara replied, "but I think you should. He may need to be cheered up too."
Molly thought about it, biting her fingernails. Then she took a deep breath and said, "Okay. I'll go see him."
"I'll see you later then. Call me and let's talk," said Sara once they were in front of Sean's room. Molly nodded.
When Molly pushed open the door, she noticed that the room was dimly lit. It also seemed barren. The flowers on the counter were gone. There was nothing on the rolling table at the foot of the bed. And there were not even the usual hums and beeps from the various ICU equipment.
The room was empty. No Sean. No woman. Just an empty bed.
"This can't be! No! No! No!" Molly wanted to scream. "All I did was just holding his hand. I didn't mean to... I just... I just wanted to..." Molly could not believe that Sean was gone. Forever.
