    Short Stories2

Molly was unusually quiet at church on the Sunday after the dinner disappointment with Sean. When Sara saw Molly after the worship service, she knew the dinner with Sean didn't go well. All of Molly's other friends sensed that something was wrong as well.

    "Are you okay?" one asked.

Before Molly could reply, Sara answered, "She's a bit under the weather." She put an arm around Molly and pulled her aside.

"The dinner with Sean didn't go well, huh?" asked Sara quietly.

Molly looked at Sara - a true friend who knew her so well and who was always by her side when she needed her - and shook her head, biting her lip to keep the tears in.

"I'm so sorry!" Sara gave Molly a big hug. "Do you want to talk about it?"

    "Maybe later."

"Okay. Do you still want to go visit the hospital today?" asked Sara, referring to their monthly visit, as volunteers, to the children cancer ward planned for that afternoon.

Molly took a deep breath and said, "I don't really feel like going, but one of the boys will be operated on today, and I told him I would go see him before he went in. I've got to go."

"Okay," Sara looked at Molly and nodded.

When they got to the hospital, Molly and Sara each put on a white gown and surgical mask as required by the hospital. Sara needed to go to the restroom, so Molly went on ahead. Just as she was passing in front of a room in the Intensive Care Unit, a woman rushed out.

"Excuse me. Come take a look. His heart is racing!" the woman grabbed Molly by the hand and half dragged her in.

"Sorry, I... I don't work here," Molly tried to explain.

Hi, I am John Doe. I love stories. Even now, I still read stories all the time. Reading while listening to a story is an enjoyable way for you to learn new words and improve your English.

    52: 耳濡目染 Inputs

Kissing was a new experience for Sean. However, he had seen it enough on television and in movies. He had also heard about it from his classmates in school. There were always boys ready and eager to share with others their stories as if they were telling about catching a big fish. To those boys it was like conquering cities and winning battles. They talked about planning their moves - what they would do and say to win the trust of their targeted prey in order to finally get what they wanted. They even gave tips on what they could do with their hands to heighten the experience.

Sean usually listened to such with mixed feelings. On one hand he was curious, and being a boy he was naturally attracted to girls. On the other hand, deep inside, he felt that what those boys did was wrong. He could just imagine his mother calling people like that scumbags. His mother certainly had a very strong opinion on subjects like that. Sean didn't know the reason. He just knew that whenever a character in a drama or movie did things like that, she would grit her teeth and wish all kinds of bad things to happen to them. It formed his view of proper conduct in terms of boy-girl relationships. However, that was just part of the contribution. Opinions and views from his classmates also played a part. "They are asking for it" was what his classmates would say about girls who wore clothing that showed a lot of skin. "They want you to" was what they would say about girls who flirted.

At this moment - as he held Molly's hand, pulling her to him, only one thought came to his mind: all the things he could do with his other hand.
