My name is Adam Neil and I am a college student in America. Though my parents are from America, I grew up in Asia. That has given me a unique perspective of life in American college. I hope that these short episodes can give you a feeling for life as a college student in America. [mp3]

罚款 Book Fine

The library at the college here is very useful. They have a large collection of books for both research on our school projects, as well as a lot of books of fiction, for people to read for enjoyment. Several of the classes here at school will require students to use a certain book, and the professors will put the book on reserve at the library.

By putting a book on reserve, the library only allows the books to be taken out for a few hours, or a day or two, depending on what the professors decide.

One of the classes that I am taking was one of these classes that required reserved reading, so I went to the library to check the book out. I took the book back to my room and did the assignment as soon as I could.

However, I forgot to return the book to the library the next day, and when I finally remembered and brought the book back, it was already over a week late. The fine for keeping the book out so long was almost fifteen dollars, because the library tries to encourage the books to be brought back on time. I could only pay the fine and try to remember to bring all my books back on time from then on.
